The man who robbed the Smithfield Bank back in March appeared in court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty.
A suspect has been arrested in the U.S. Bank robbery in Smithfield, Ohio. Authorities said 31-year-old Joseph Bednarek, of Wells Township, is currently in the Jefferson County Justice Center. Bednarek was arrested in Steubenville, Monday afternoon with a large amount of cash.
911 dispatchers confirmed that U.S. Bank in Smithfield, Ohio, was robbed Monday morning at around 9 a.m.
According to reports, the suspect entered the bank and told a teller, "Give me your money so I don't have to shoot." The teller then gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash. He then fled the premises.
Wells Township Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.
Employees at the Smithfield Village Building were ordered to lock their doors while law enforcement searched for the suspect.
The search for the suspect continued Monday afternoon. He is described as five-feet eight-inches tall, around 140-150 lbs., wearing black pants and a black jacket and a gray sweatshirt.
