New details have emerged in a hit-and-run in Warwood early Thursday. The driver has been identified as 27-year-old Jakob Barnes from West Liberty. He's charged with driving under the influence, after he apparently hit a telephone pole on Route 2 near Kroger. Barnes then reportedly left the scene.
Barnes allegedly cut the airbags out of his car, and eventually that car broke down near the Centre Foundry. That's where police caught up with him. They say there was heavy damage to the front of his car. Traffic was tied up on Route 2 both north and south.
Police were on the scene of a hit-and-run in Warwood on Thursday. It happened on Route 2 before North 8th Street. The driver hit a sign on the side of the road, then backed up and hit a telephone pole, knocking it down.
A witness on scene said the driver left the scene, eventually abandoning his car near the Centre Foundry. He then fled on foot. Police caught up with the driver a short time later. The driver's name is not being released at this time. He is being charged with driving under the influence.
