The John Marshall High School softball team, the defending Class AAA state champs, won a pair of games on Saturday afternoon on their home diamond.
Senior ace Amy Rotriga whiffed 14 Morgantown Mohigans and allowed just two hits in a 2-1 JM victory in the first game. Senior shortstop Kiley Howard, the reigning WV Gatorade Player of the Year, had three hits.
In the nightcap, freshman pitcher Alyssa Blake toed the rubber, struck out five and allowed just one hit, in a 12-1 mercy-rule victory over Cameron. The Monarchs (4-0) scored all 12 runs in the first inning. Howard banged out two more hits, to give her five in the DH.
