Military recruiting continues to remain strong, as all of the active duty military components met or exceeded goals for fiscal year 2013 through February.

The U.S. Army had 26,978 accessions for 101 percent of its goal.  U.S. Navy recruiting had  14,007 accessions, meeting 100 percent of its goal, as did the Marine Corps with 11,131 accessions, and the Air Force, which had 11,874 accessions.

Concerning retention of airmen, marines, and soldiers, Defense Department officials characterized those numbers by describing them as "strong."  Those officials further characterized the 88 percent retention numbers of the Navy as "a result of the transition from a downsizing to a stabilizing posture."

As for the Reserve Components, five of six met or exceeded their "Fiscal-Year-To-Date" 2013 recruiting goals. The Army Reserve finished February 1,410 accessions short of its goal.
