The Wheeling Park baseball team improved to 9-0 on the season with a double-header sweep of the visiting Cambridge Bobcats at Patriot Field.
Wheeling Park pitcher Justice Jackson pitched a complete-game four-hitter, fanning four, in the 7-0 victory in game 1.
The Patriots won the nightcap 13-8. Matt Brooks was the winning pitcher. Ethan Jacob and Jesse Hartley each had three hits. Julian Figaretti smacked a double and single, while sophomore center fielder Eric Banks also had a pair of hits.
Mealtime, the Wheeling Park softball team split a double-header with Morgantown winning the first game 1-0, and dropping the nightcap 5-3 at the 1-470 Complex on Lisa's Field.
Kristin Slater scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring on a Carly Greer sac fly to deep shortstop.
On Ben's Field, Weirton Madonna earned a hard-fought split with Bishop Donahue. The Bishops won the first game, 5-4, by scoring the winning-run in the bottom of the seventh. Game 2 went nine innings, as the Blue Dons won 8-7. Madonna scratched for three runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead, and had to hold off a furious Donahue rally.
