Authorities Arrest Belmont County Burglary Suspect

Authorities with the Ohio County Sheriff's Department arrested a man suspected of a burglary in Belmont County after the man brought stolen property across state lines into West Virginia.

Edwards Davis was arrested for allegedly bringing a stolen 2007 Toyota Avalon with Ohio registration into West Virginia.

According to reports, Davis was the suspect of a burglary in Belmont County that happened on April 1. Taken in the burglary was a 2007 Toyota Avalon, firearms, jewelry and silver flatware. Authorities with the Ohio County Sheriff said they were notified by the Belmont County investigating officer, Sgt. Glenn Moore, that the stolen vehicle was in the Wheeling area with stolen property inside and operated by Davis.

Lt. Nelson Croft found the vehicle at the Grove Terrace Motel in Elm Grove and set up surveillance around the vehicle with the assistance of Dep. Bracher-Musty, Trooper Heckler and Natural Resources Police Haines. According to reports, Davis was identified opening the car and was then taken into custody. Davis had the key to the stolen vehicle in his hand at the time of his arrest.

Davis was arraigned over night by Ohio County Magistrate Joe Roxby, who issued bail at $10,000. Davis is currently being held in the Northern Regional Jail.
