Wheeling Jesuit Women's Golf Wins WVIAC Southern Regional

The Wheeling Jesuit women's golf team won the third WVIAC major tournament of the season as the Cardinals claimed the WVIAC Southern Regional Championship which was held at Glade Springs Golf Resort. Jesuit held a 14-stroke lead after the first day of the Southern Regional and garnered a 21-stroke victory Monday afternoon.

The Cardinals recorded a two-day tally of 660 while West Virginia Wesleyan earned a second-place finish with a 681. Seton Hill rounded out the top three by totaling a 689. Concord accounted for a two-day score of 696 while Charleston completed the top-five teams with a 36-hole score of 730.

WJU's Kasey Frazier won the tournament by posting a two-day score of 150. Frazier posted rounds of 72 and 78 while Juli Hirauk followed with rounds of 83 and 86 for a 169 tournament total. Erin Metzger added a 173 tournament total with rounds of 82 and 91, and Whitney Young turned in scores of 88 and 86 for a 174 strokes. Lauren Merholz rounded out the Cardinals scoring with rounds of 97 and 85 to finish with 182 strokes.

 

Concord's Stephanie Peareth placed second with a 36-hole 156, and Fairmont State's Liz Frederick sported a 157 to capture the bronze. West Virginia Wesleyan's Kayla Linger started with an 81 before coming home with a 78 for a 159. The Mountain Lions' Marina Erice totaled a 163 to round out the top five student-athletes.
