Mon General, WVU Hospitals spar over cancer center

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — The war between WVU Hospitals and Morgantown's Mon General Hospital has a new front: They're now battling over the purchase and relocation of a Fairmont cancer center.

WVU Hospitals is seeking state approval to acquire the Fairmont Regional Cancer Center from Oncology Services Inc. for $11 million. It plans to spend another $3 million on equipment.

But Mon General claims that move reneges on a previous agreement the two hospital systems reached when Mon General was challenging a huge expansion project at WVU Hospitals.

The Dominion Post says Mon now wants a Health Care Authority hearing, claiming the cancer center initially planned to move onto its campus.

WVU Hospitals denies any wrongdoing or unfair dealings.

Mon General is also battling the proposed relocation of West Virginia University Urgent Care.
