Charleston East End Bazaar launches first full season April 27

Posted: Updated:

East End Main Street announced the grand opening April 27 of the first full season of the East End Bazaar open-air artisan market.

The market is located at 1428 Washington Street East at Ruffner Avenue in Charleston.

A project of EEMS, the bazaar features an eclectic mix of functional and collectible art and hand-crafted goods as well as full line-up of live acoustic music each weekend.

Besides improving what was once an empty lot, the bazaar will provide an opportunity for local artists and artisans to showcase and sell their work, aid in economic development by encouraging entrepreneurship and tourism, and generally contribute to the East End's revitalization as a thriving, vibrant arts district.

Market hours are Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., April through October.

Vendors scheduled for the at-capacity April 27 bazaar include Christie Craddock, ChrizArt, Studio Lilybean, Providence Handmade, Scream! Ice Cream, Emerald Dragonfly Designs, Le Junque, Pampered Paws Bakery, Charly Jupiter Hamilton, Fish Hawk Acres, 10% Pottery, Caribbean Kitchen, Kelly Bryant, Thaibilly Kitchen, The Eco-Beader, and Mission Savvy/Organic To-Go. Local favorites The Carpenter Ants will play their signature brand of "country-friend gospel soul" on the Bazaar center stage.

The bazaar is the result of more than a year of planning and fundraising. More than 1,400 volunteer hours were logged for the construction and upkeep. Volunteers worked nearly every Saturday, most Sundays and sporadic weekdays last summer.

"The construction and development of the bazaar is a creative combination of effective corporate partnerships and a strong volunteer base that is working tirelessly and led by Market Manager and EEMS AmeriCorps VISTA Ned Savage," said EEMS Executive Director Ric Cavender.

"We are very proud, appreciative, and humbled by the immense amount of support this project has received from volunteers, sponsors, partners, and the community," Cavender said.

A list of featured vendors for the Grand Opening along with photos of the construction process can be found on the bazaar Facebook fan page, as well as information regarding other approved vendors and performances. Photos, schedule, Market Policies and the official vendor application are available at EEMS is always seeking new artists, artisans, cooks, musicians and performers.

Free parking for Bazaar patrons will be available in the RCCR and WV Health Right parking lots.
