The John Marshall baseball (14-13) team kept its season alive with a 12-3 rout of Morgantown High at Monarch Field in the Class AAA Sectional on Wednesday night.

Morgantown's Connor Leone led off the game with a towering homerun off the scoreboard in right center field, but the Monarchs brought their bats too.

After being blanked 5-0 in Game 1 of the three-game series in Morgantown on Tuesday night, the Monarchs exploded for six runs in the bottom of the second inning, and four in the bottom of the third to take an 11-3 lead.  JM catcher Zach Winland had a two-RBI triple highlighting the second inning. Mitch Whorton doubled in two runs, and Shane Wellman smacked a two-run homerun in the bottom of the third.

Senior Jeramiah Fromhart had an RBI single, and went the distance on the mound, striking out nine while scattering 3 hits.

The win sets up a winner-take-all series finale tomorrow in Morgantown at 5 p.m. at Mylan Park.
