The victim of a beating in Wheeling has been pronounced dead. In a press release issued Friday, The Wheeling Police Department said that 22-year-old Anthony Demello died from injuries sustained in a fight on Joan Street in the Fulton area of Wheeling.
Detectives continue to interview witnesses.
As of Friday morning, authorities are in the process of interviewing witnesses and searching for the suspect.
22-year-old Anthony Demello is in critical condition and police are still searching for his attacker on Thursday.
Police say it started at a party inside a Fulton home, and when officers arrived, they found the victim had suffered a serious head injury and was transported to Wheeling Hospital.
A witness said the attacker took off running from the house on Joan Street. Police received two calls last night, the first at 1:15 a.m., about a fight inside the house, where they found Demello with a bloody lip and nose. He was uncooperative with police and no charges were pressed.
An hour after police cleared the scene, they were called out to the house again. This time, they found Demello laying unconscious on the sidewalk with obvious head injury. Witnesses say the fight was allegedly over a girl. Police say everyone on the scene appeared to be in their 20's.
Police also say alcohol was involved. It's unclear right now if charges will be filed.
Police continue to investigate after an overnight fight outside of a bar in Wheeling.
According to Wheeling Police, one man is in critical condition after being transported to Wheeling Hospital with a head injury.
Police say they searched for the suspect in the Fulton area, but did not find him.
The detective division of the Wheeling Police Department continues to investigate.
