    Despite the relatively high amount of natural gas production in West Virginia, less than 3 percent of employees in some of the major occupations that make up the sector's workforce live in the Mountain State.

Interested in taking a spin in a natural gas vehicle? The public will have the opportunity to test a natural gas vehicle at a conference next week. 

Professionals in the natural gas and automotive industries will be in Charleston for the first-ever Appalachian Basin Natural Gas Vehicle Expo and Conference starting Monday. The event runs though Wednesday and is hosted by the West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association along with Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin. 

Participants in the conference will be treated to a concert featuring Landau Eugene Murphy of American Idol fame. Most presentations will be on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. through 2:45 p.m.

Speakers include Richard Kolodziej, president of NGV America; Brian Holtz, Waste Management; and Elizabeth Ames Jones, Patton Boggs LLP. The conference wraps up on Wednesday, May 15 with a special luncheon at 12:00 pm hosted by Governor Tomblin and guests.

On Wednesday, the general public will be incited from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to meet with industry experts and visit displays. Part of the exhibit will include an opportunity to take a ride or drive a natural gas powered vehicle.
