The ball field at Benwood City Park is about to get a new name.
It'll be named Melko Memorial Field in honor of the late former Bishop Donahue multi-sport star Scott Melko.
The official ceremony will take place on Memorial Day, around 11 a.m., following the parade in Benwood.
Melko was just 45 when he died in April of 2007. He spent countless hours at the field, wether he was playing, coaching, umpiring, or cutting the grass.
His family, including his widow Monica, and kids Brock and Beth Ann, will be part of the ceremony. They feel it's only fitting that the field be named in Scott's honor, since he devoted so much of his time and energy to the field and area kids.
The Scott Melko Memorial Scholarship Golf Scramble will be held this year on Sunday, July 7. The after-party is held at Benwood City Park.
