In light of the Boston Marathon bombings, the City of Wheeling along with the Ogden Race Committee, are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best as the Ogden Newspapers Half-Marathon Classic approaches.
Several meetings have been held over the last month breaking down just how they will keep the city safe during the several race events, and that means more rules.
This year, you can expect to see a specified "secure area" where there will be no bags, packages, boxes or similar items allowed. Another new rule this year, no strollers will be allowed in the secure area or jogging strollers for the 5K race.
Race officials recognize the headache these rules can cause but ask for your understanding.
Security plans and meetings will continue all through next week and up to the day of the race.
Then Ogden Half-Marathon and 5K Race is next Saturday May 25. Festivities start on Friday with a full day of events.
