The Wheeling Park softball team picked the best time to defeat their arch rivals from John Marshall, eliminating the defending West Virginia Class AAA state champions 5-3, in front of a packed house in Glen Dale.
The Monarchs defeated the Patriots in three meetings this season, before this regional final.
The victory snapped John Marshall's 24-game winning streak.
Senior center fielder Sissy George drilled a two-run homerun in the first inning to give the Monarchs an early lead.
Shortstop Kiley Howard produced a bloop single to score Mo Watson to increase the lead to 3-0.
But in the top of the fourth inning, Wheeling Park pitcher Carly Greer drilled a two-out double scoring two runs.
In the top of the fifth, Patriots catcher Ashleigh Sidon smacked a three-run homerun to give the Patriots a 5-3 lead.
Greer went the distance, and struck out four. She got Hannah Rogerson, who was the tying run, to fly out to right field to end the game, touching off a huge celebration.
The Patriots will play the winner of Region 4, St.Albans or Hurricane, next Wednesday morning at 9:30 in Vienna.
