Mon General Hospital dedicated its new Center for Cardiac Care on Tuesday, May 14, in honor of Warren T. Anderson, M.D., who started the cardiac care program at Mon General Hospital in 1977 and saw his vision for the growth of the program become a reality.
"Today, Mon General Hospital names our new cardiac center in Dr. Anderson's honor and celebrates his devotion to this community, this hospital and to his patients by erecting a plaque that will be placed in a very visible and conspicuous location to remind us of his many contributions," said Mon Health System President and CEO Darryl Duncan at the start of the dedication.
The Warren T. Anderson, M.D. Center for Cardiac Care features three cardiac catheterization laboratories, 14 pre- and post-procedure rooms, a stress lab and two nuclear cameras.
The center was completed in February 2013 at a cost of $11 million.
"Mon General performs nearly 4,000 cardiac and electrophysiology procedures and more than 500 cardiothoracic surgeries each year — life-saving care that people can receive right here at Mon General Hospital without leaving the state," Duncan said. "Dr. Anderson, you did make a difference."
A plaque was unveiled on the wall by the entrance to the Center for Cardiac Care.
"Through his efforts to recruit quality physicians to Mon General, Dr. Anderson has ensured that the tradition of excellence in cardiac care he established will continue for the patients the hospital proudly serves well into the future," the plaque reads. "Today, the program Dr. Anderson created from humble beginnings with a dream of a regional center of excellence is a reality. Mon General has grown to become the highest volume cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, and open heart surgery program in the region, known for excellent patient outcomes, high patient satisfaction, and warm friendly surroundings."
In support of naming the Center for Cardiac Care after Anderson, The Foundation of Mon General raised more than $500,000 in his honor. A grateful patient and generous anonymous donor has pledged to match gifts, dollar for dollar, up to $1,000,000, for donating to the Warren T. Anderson, M.D. Center for Cardiac Care as part of The Foundation's capital campaign.
