Steubenville Police continued to search Tuesday for the person responsible for cutting and stealing all of the heavy duty electric cables at the Historic Fort Steuben Amphitheater.
Board President Jerry Barilla noticed the potted plants knocked over when he drove into work Monday morning. Then, to his surprise, he noticed the electric cable wires missing and the cable box still hot.
Barilla immediately called the city electrician and then reported it to police.
Executive Director Judy Bratten says this is the first case of vandalism in 8 years.
"It's not only hard on the Fort but it's also hard on other city events when something like this happens," says Bratten.
Officials at Fort Steuben believe it happened around 2:30 a.m. Monday.
They say they hope to get new cables and boxes in time for a concert on Thursday.
"We are very thankful for the respect that most of the community has shown. This is just a few people who spoiled it for everybody," says Bratten.
Surveillance video showed lights around the amphitheater around 2:30 in the morning but authorities can not make out any faces.
