Local 1190 and the United Steelworkers of America are saying "enough is enough" when it comes to Severstal's "our way or the highway" mentality.
"We need for them just to cooperate with us," says Santo Santoro, USW District 1 Representative.
Local 1190 President Ernie Gambellin and Santo Santoro wanted to make the people who work at the Mountain State Carbon plant aware of what they claim has been going on since September 2012. Now they're at the point where the need help.
Both apologized for not being in touch with union members more but felt they couldn't because of uncertainty after every meeting with the company.
Santoro said that they have met 5 to 6 times since September but have never reached an agreement.
"We've been willing to sit down saying 'hey, we can talk these issues out?' So they came to the table, take it or leave it, that's what they do. They'll leave the bargain on the table and say that's it," says Gambellin.
Gambellin says 220 jobs are at stake and the uncertainty has been wearing on the union members.
Now they are asking for all Steelworkers at the plant to speak with one voice and support the union to get the contract they deserve.
"Our people need to be treated with dignity and respect in that coke plant," says Santoro.
