A new law is in effect Friday in the Mountain State.
Children younger than 14 years of age are not permitted to use tanning beds at all because of the law the Legislature enacted this year.
Teens between the ages of 14 and 17 will now only be able to tan with parental permission. Opponents of the bill say this law will put tanning salons out of business in the Mountain State because teen tanners are a large part of their clientele.
The American Cancer Society supports the law, saying teens are at a 75 percent higher risk of developing melanoma. Starting Friday, tanning patrons will have to present proof of age.
