Heat Wave Putting Stress on Air Conditioners

Posted: Updated:

With a forecast calling for 90 degree days all week, many people are cranking the air to keep their homes comfortable, which can be costly.

There are some things you can do to make sure your air conditioning unit is running as efficiently as possible.

Carmen Pratti Miller, with AEP Ohio, recommends setting the thermostat at 78 degrees, a comfortable temperature that won't stress your unit. Also, keep the blinds drawn on the sunniest side of your house and only cook and do laundry in the mornings or evenings.

She says if your house isn't properly insulated, your cool air could be leaking out.
