Coal Forum scheduled for Wheeling

Posted: Updated:

The West Virginia Coal Forum will host a forum from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 15 at West Liberty University's Highland Energy Center in Triadelphia.

The forum will represent both labor and management and will discuss the significance of coal exports to both the state and the national economy.

According to a news release from Friends of Coal, information released by the West Virginia Division of Commerce in February showed a 40 percent growth in West Virginia's coal exports in a year's time, going from $5.3 billion in 2011 to $7.4 billion in 2012.

Among the speakers expected at the event are: Senate President Jeff Kessler, D-Marshall; West Liberty Universit President Robin Capehart; West Virginia Division of Energy Director Jeff Herholdt; United Coal CEO Michael Zervos; West Virginia Coal Association President Bill Raney; and UMWA representative Fred Tucker, who is co-chairman of the coal forum along with WV Coal Association Vice President Chris Hamilton.

Reservations are required to attend the event because seating is limited, but it is free of cost. Contact Joel Watts at joel.l.watts@wv.gov to make a reservation.
