The population in Wheeling has been declining for past several decades and that means so has the local church-going population.
The Wheeling Futures Task Force is trying to help the Lutheran churches in the area decide what to do with their declining number of parishioners. Several ideas for the future were brought up, including that of one large church with multiple locations.
A consultant was brought into to determine the best options if the churches were to merge.
While the churches are hoping to attract new parishioners, that doesn't necessarily mean younger parishioners.
No decision was reached at a recent meeting, but congregations will begin to vote on their church's future between September 15 and September 30.
