Harrison County Schools Host 'Active Shooter' Program

Posted: Updated:

Teachers were the ones doing the learning Monday in Harrison Hills as hundreds of educators came together for an active shooter training at Harrison County Schools.

From administrators to bus drivers, everyone was learning to handle an extreme situation, similar to the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary last year. The sheriff's department brought in a speaker from the Ohio Attorney General's Office to give the training class.

Superintendent of Harrison Hills Schools Dana Snider believes the training is important. "It's certainly relevant, it's certainly something our teachers need to know about and it's very interesting. We hope they pull something from this in case there'd ever be an emergency in our area," said Snider.

Earlier this summer, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine directed the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy which made these types of training's available to school administrators across the state of Ohio.
