One local school district is taking every precaution to make sure their students and staff are as safe as possible when they head back to school on Tuesday.
The Buckeye Local School District has contracted START, LLC to assess the safety of the buildings in their district. START stands for Special Tactics and Rescue Training. It's a locally owned and operated company founded by former Navy SEAL Frank Hoagland.
A team of four people from START are working inside Buckeye Local Schools and were at Monday evening's meeting to give an update on their progress. The team is scouring each of the districts buildings to provide an assessment and offer suggestions to improve safety practices for students and staff. START will outline what to do in emergency situations, such as a shooter in a school building or on school property, or an emergency situation on a school bus.
There is currently a resource officer at Buckeye Local High School. START could suggest, as part of their assessment, that armed guards be placed at each building. That would have to be approved by the board.
