The Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals have been selected to win the inaugural Mountain East Conference men's cross country championship in a vote conducted by the league's coaches.
The Cardinals collected seven first-place votes and finished with 71 points. WJU returns Luke Holubeck, Joe Molek and Patrick Stanton who finished third, seventh and 10th, respectively, at last year's WVIAC championship meet.
Just behind Wheeling Jesuit was West Virginia Wesleyan with 62 points, including one first-place nod. The Bobcats will be led in 2013 by Lucas Greza and Nathan Whitacre who each earned all-conference honors in the WVIAC a season ago.
Concord, despite graduating its four top runners from a season ago, was picked to finish in third with 53 points. Notre Dame College was picked to finish fourth with 44 points, followed closely by West Liberty with 40 points. Fairmont State (30), UVa-Wise (23), Urbana (20) and Glenville State (17) rounded out the poll.
Teams will start the 2013 season on Saturday, Sept. 17.
