Interim sheriff named in Mingo County, WV following controversy

An interim sheriff was named at a Mingo County Commission meeting on Sept. 4.

Pam Dixon, Chief Tax Deputy for Mingo County, was named interim sheriff until a permanent replacement can be chosen.  Dixon was named because current interim sheriff Rosie Crum announced she would step down following a federal investigation mentioning her husband, the late Eugene Crum.

Eugene Crum was serving as sheriff in Mingo County when he was shot and killed April 3.  Rosie Crum accepted the position of interim sheriff until a permanent one could be found. The trial of the suspected shooter is on-going.

The list of applicants includes: Lt. Randy Hatfield, Sgt. James Smith, Dave Stratton and Larry Ferguson.  The Mingo County Commission is expected to name a new sheriff on Sept. 18.
