A convicted murderer who was discovered living at Youth Services System on Wheeling Island is back in court facing child pornography charges.

44-year-old Shelton Cash, of Elkview, West Virginia, is facing five counts of possession of child pornography and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The story began in Kanawha County, where a 12-year-old girl went to authorities alleging Cash had sexual intercourse with her. State police later found Cash at Youth Services System, where he had been living for months.

Sgt. Scott Adams, with the West Virginia State Police said, "I mean it disturbed me that, again, he was with within a block of an elementary school and a neighborhood that have several families of children that live in there as well. It's one of those cases that you know you're doing something good for the community that you're getting a dangerous person off the street."

Because Cash, who is a convicted murder, was staying at Youth Services System, they've responded by saying: "We truly express our regret for the concern brought to local residents about this incident. This incident didn't involve any of our programs, just the use of the convent.
All activity has ceased at the convent which is again vacant. We will share future plans for this facility with the community."

Cash is eligible for life in prison if he's convicted of a third felony. He was convicted of               first-degree murder in 1992 while he was serving time at the former State Penitentiary in Moundsville.
