West Virginia Wesleyan College recently partnered with Shenandoah University to offer a Doctorate of Physical Therapy.

Wesleyan has signed an articulation agreement with the Division of Physical Therapy at Shenandoah, which will allow successful candidates matriculating from Wesleyan's Pre-Physical Therapy program, to receive a Doctorate of Physical Therapy.

The program is designed for applicants who have completed the pre-requisites and will obtain a baccalaureate from Wesleyan.

Full-time undergraduate students may apply to the department for a doctorate, and the University will accept two Wesleyan students who meet the criteria.

"Students who are interested in pursuing the Doctor of Physical Therapy graduate degree are able to consider Shenandoah as an option when reviewing various schools for application, Thom Smith, director of the Wesleyan School of Health Sciences, said in a news release. "Shenandoah has current articulation agreements with very elite undergraduate pre-PT programs, like James Madison University and Virginia Technology Institute, which allows our students to be considered a priority if they meet the graduate requirements for entry.

"This is truly a benefit to Wesleyan."

The Doctorate in Physical Therapy is designed for entry-level students and allows the graduate to enter the physical therapy profession as well as to sit for the National Physical Therapy Examination to obtain a state license. The curriculum contains three years of coursework both in the classroom and in clinical environments. The program is accredited through the commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.

The School of Health Sciences at West Virginia Wesleyan currently offers bachelor degrees in athletic training, exercise science, nursing and physical health and education.
