A Weirton man is dead after reportedly attempting to break up an altercation between a man and his girlfriend on Hudson Avenue in Weirton on Sunday morning.
According to Captain Stead of the Weirton Police Department, a disturbance call came into police headquarters reporting shots fired in the area of Hudson and Orchard streets. When police arrived, they found the victim, later identified as 35-year-old Frank Tulock, and shell casings at the scene.
A search of the area revealed a man reportedly hiding in the bushes, who was identified as 18-year-old Adam Barnhart. Barnhart was arrested and charged with murder.
The mother of Barnhart's girlfriend said he has allegedly threatened to use the gun on people before. Erica Spanovich says that if it wasn't for Tulock trying to stop Barnhart from hurting her daughter, she could have been killed.
Spanovich says she is forever grateful for Tulock's courageous act and will take care of his two daughters and wife whenever they need it.
Barnhart will next appear in Brooke County Magistrate Court on September 16.
