Shadyside and Bellaire football fans have waited more than a half century for its high school teams to play a football game.
And in the first meeting since 1950, Shadyside staged a action-packed 46-29 victory over the Big Reds on a beautiful, sun-splashed afternoon in front of an overflow crowd at Nelson Field.
Shadyside junior quarterback Austin Dorris ran for a pair of scores and threw another in the exciting win. Senior running back Chris Littell and junior fullback Eric Howell each added a pair touchdowns. Howell carried the ball 21 times for 163 yards, and Littell chalked up 92 yards on 15 carries. The Tigers piled up 420 yards on the ground with six touchdowns.
Bellaire quarterback Spencer Badia passed for 275 yards with four touchdowns, two of them going to Nick Patrone, who caught six balls for 137 yards. Senior Kenny Hess snagged four passes, including and 80-yard touchdown.
The Tigers improve to 3-0 on the season, and will host Shenandoah next Friday night.
Bellaire drops to 1-2 on the season, and will host Edison next Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field.
