Authorities continue to search for the suspect that led police on a chase through Wheeling Monday
Police are still searching for the suspect that led police on a high speed pursuit through Wheeling Monday. Authorities say the man took off on foot after the crash, leaving a path of destruction behind him.
It all started on Vermont Street Monday morning. Police were already patrolling the area, searching for the gunman in a weekend shooting, when an officer spotted something out of the ordinary. A white SUV traveling the wrong way down a one way street. As soon as that officer gout out of the patrol car, the man driving the SUV took off.
From there, authorities say the SUV headed into East Wheeling, over a barricade, and onto the jogging trail, before crashing into a home on Elizabeth Street.
Authorities believe the suspect to be either a white man or a light-skinned black man, with very short hair, and a gray hooded sweatshirt. The white Ford Excursion he was driving, was apparently stolen out of Woodsfield Ohio overnight.
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call the Wheeling Police Department.
