The Magnolia Blue Eagles dominated the first half, but the second belonged to Wheeling Central, as the Maroon Knights recorded a wild, 27-20 victory over the Blue Eagles at Wheeling Island Stadium.
Magnolia built a 12-0 halftime lead, thanks to rushing touchdowns from quarterback Jacob Brill (31 yards) and Kage Rohde (50 yards).
Wheeling Central got its offense going in the third quarter, as senior Parker Henry exploded 38 yards for a touchdown, part of his 139 yard effort. Senior running back C.J. Burch scored a 39-yard touchdown to give the Maroon Knights the lead 13-12.
Drew Keller put Magnolia on top once again with a short touchdown run. He lugged the ball 22 times for 102 yards and a TD.
But the momentum turned on a safety, as senior Derek Yocke sacked Brill in the end zone to make it 20-15 Blue Eagles.
And with :30 left in the fourth quarter, freshman quarterback Isaac Rine tossed an 8-yard TD to Henry, to give the Maroon Knights a 21-20 lead with the PAT.
But Magnolia drove the length of the field, and had a field goal attempt with :04 left. The kick was blocked and returned by Yocke for a 73-yard touchdown.
At halftime, Brooke Kaminski was named the 2013 Wheeling Central Homecoming queen.
The Maroon Knights, now 4-1 on the season, host Kiski next Friday night.
Magnolia (2-3) will host Monroe Central (3-2) next Friday night at Alumni Field.
