Local fire and rescue teams headed back into the water on Monday to resume the search for two unidentified individuals who reportedly jumped from the Newell Bridge on Sunday.
Hancock County 911 received the call of the possible jumpers on the Newell Bridge at around 6:41 p.m. Sunday.
Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher said the caller, while sitting in traffic, told 911 dispatchers there was a white male in a black cut off t-shirt, jeans a bandana and a gray beard and a white female with bleached hair in a black tank top, jeans and several tattoos on her arms standing in the walk way on the bridge.
According to statements given by a witness, the couple kissed, climbed up on the rail and jumped.
Members of the New Cumberland Fire Department, Newell and Chester Fire Departments participated in the search until approximately 8:15 p.m. The search was stopped due to nightfall.
Each of the departments, as well as the Coast Guard, is participating in the search for these two individuals on Monday.
