WHEELING, W.Va -
Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger and the Ohio Valley Black Caucus President, Delores Wiggins, have scheduled a meeting to address alleged misconduct by Wheeling Police officers.
Schwertfeger says he would have appreciated the opportunity to attend the meeting on Thursday when the allegations were discussed. He says he takes any complaints very seriously, which is why he started the Office of Professional Standards to investigate all complaints.
"I don't have any concerns that my officers are mistreating anyone," he said. "I think the arrests are sound, and their professionalism speaks for itself. Having said that, if someone wants to bring something of merit to my attention or to the attention of the Office of Professional Standards, then again, I'll deal with it."
The meeting between Schwertfeger and Wiggins is scheduled for Wednesday. Schwertfeger says he's had constructive meetings with Wiggins in the past, and is confident a solution can be reached.
