He's used to being on top of the racing world, but on Wednesday, he went underground.
The Clean Coal Corporation is a sponsor of Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the NASCAR circuit, and to show his appreciation, Junior stopped by on Wednesday to see some of his fans at work at the Enlow Fork Mine in Claysville, Pa.
But it didn't come without some training. Dale and his entourage had to undergo safety training before going into the mine. Afterwards, he met with fans who work at the mine for photos and autographs.
Junior said that he just loved being around the fans and the machines.
"My favorite part would have to be seeing the shear, being on top of the shear, being that close to where coal is getting dug out, being able to almost reach out and grab it.," said Earnhardt. "Just getting on top of something like that you just understand how things work and how important it is to this country."
Dale Jr. is the first NASCAR driver to receive a sponsorship from the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity after they signed him in April of last year.
Junior did have to leave almost right away and return to training since he's in the middle of the Sprint Cup Chase. He'll hit the track next in Kansas for the Hollywood Casino 400 at the Kansas Speedway this Sunday.
