The Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals earned a big road victory on Wednesday night over cross-conference foe, California University of Pennsylvania. The Cardinals took care of business with a 3-1 win.
The WJU/Cal volleyball match is always a hotly contested affair, with both teams having last met in the 2012 Atlantic Regional Final. In that game the Cardinals needed four sets to dispatch the Vulcans, but that game was played at the friendly confines of WJU's McDonough Center.
This time, the Cardinals again needed four tight sets on the road to get past the Vulcans, winning the match 27-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22.
The Cardinals were led by Jenna Pew, the 6' 0" Senior from Marshallville, Ohio, who had a triple-double on the evening with 11 kills, 25 assists, and 10 digs. This was the second triple-double in as many weeks for Pew, who garnered Mountain East Conference Player of the Week honors last week for her performance against Pitt-Johnstown.
Also leading the way for the Cards were freshmen Emma Schleucher who had 15 kills on the evening, and Haley Kindall who had 16 kills.
The Cardinals return home on October 4th to face Mountain East opponent Virginia-Wise, scheduled for 6pm.
