2nd Annual Bras Across the Bridge Will be Next Saturday

Posted: Updated:

October has arrived! As the nation marks National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this month, the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Monroe County planning committee is once again putting on their awareness and fundraising event that promotes breast cancer awareness while raising funds for the American Cancer Society to help kickoff their 2014 Relay For Life fundraising efforts.

On October 12th from 10:00am 2:00pm, bridge go'ers will see quite a sight as they cross into Ohio or West Virginia via the Hannibal-New Martinsville Bridge. There will be bras lining the bridge's fence from side to side, but the committee needs your help! In order to make sure there are enough bras to make it the whole way across (and hopefully back the other side), community members are urged to donate a decorated or undecorated bra and $10.00. Bras and donations can be sent to Crystal Longwell, PO Box 152, Hannibal, OH 43931. Checks can be made payable to the American Cancer Society.

According to a press release, throughout the four hour event, along with the bras lining the fence across the bridge there will be entertainment, as well as food on the Hannibal Lock & Dam site. There will also be event t-shirts for sale. For updates on the event, please LIKE the Relay For Life of Monroe County's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/MonroeCountyRFL.

The American Cancer Society reminds women ages 40 and older about the importance of getting a mammogram and clinical breast exam every year to find breast cancer in its early, more treatable stages. "Countless Americans who have never had breast cancer and more than 2.9 million who are surviving the disease will celebrate a birthday this year, thanks in part to the lifesaving efforts of the American Cancer Society and supporters," said Chad Gardner, of the American Cancer Society.  "This event is a great opportunity to remind women of the life saving benefits of breast cancer screenings."

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight, inspirational event that raises awareness and funds to help change the course of cancer by finding cures and supporting programs and services for all people facing the disease. The 2014 version of the Relay For Life of Monroe County event will be held at the Hannibal Locks and Dam on Friday, June 6 - Saturday, June 7, 2014. Please visit www.relayforlife.org/MonroeCountyOH to register to participate in the fight against cancer or sign up for the survivor's opening lap. If you or someone you know is interested in joining the event planning committee or forming a team, please contact American Cancer Society staff partner Chad Gardner at 1-888-227-6446 x3210 or chad.gardner@cancer.org
