UPDATE: Man Faces Charges in Girlfriend's Death After Upshur County DUI Accident
Ronnie Landis is now charged with one felony count of DUI causing death with reckless disregard after an accident in Upshur County Saturday.
A man who originally faced a misdemeanor charge after a single-vehicle incident in Upshur County killed a woman Saturday, October 5 now faces a felony charge.
West Virginia State Police said Ronnie Landis, 33, was driving a car with his girlfriend Nicole Currence, 27, when the accident happened.
Landis originally faced a misdemeanor charge of DUI causing death with reckless disregard. That has now been moved to a felony charge, according to state police.
Landis is in Tygart Valley Regional Jail where his bail has been increased to $350,000.
West Virginia State Police in Upshur County responded to a single vehicle accident on Saturday night in Ellamore, that left one woman dead and put a man in handcuffs.
According to police, Ronnie Landis, 33, was driving a car with his girlfriend Nicole Currence, 27, on Old Elkins Road when the accident happened.
Officers said Currence died in the crash and Landis was charged with one count of misdemeanor driving under the influence causing death with reckless disregard. Police said Landis' Blood Alcohol Content was .172, more than two times the legal limit. This was Landis' second DUI offense, according to police. Police said the investigation is ongoing and Landis could face additional felony charges.
According to police, Currence and Landis were headed to their home in Ellamore. It is unclear where they were traveling from, but the accident happened around 8 p.m. Saturday night.
Landis is in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail. Bail is set at $175,000.
