The addition of a half-percent sales tax went into affect this month in the city of Wheeling.
As of October 1, consumers will pay more for items purchased in the city, except for cars, gasoline, and unprepared food. According to the city manager, not all business owners in the city have begun collecting the tax.
The state tax
department says they've notified everyone, and the city will now be
sending out notices as well, hoping to get all businesses owners up to
speed as soon as possible. As a
result of the new tax, council lowered the B&O tax on several
categories. Those changes will go into effect on April 1 of 2014.
