Nick Rahall continues call to end government shutdown

Posted: Updated:

Hearing from Federal workers in West Virginia who are receiving reduced paychecks due to the government shutdown, Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., called on his colleagues Friday to end the stalemate, pass a comprehensive funding bill and let federal employees get back to work.

"West Virginia is fortunate to have so many dedicated public servants," Rahall said in his statement. "They daily show up for work and carry out the essential functions of our government and they do so in a spirit of service to our country.

"I deeply regret the current financial pain this shutdown is causing them, as well as the inconvenience and hardship it is causing so many other West Virginians who count on critical government services and benefits that have been suspended during the shutdown. I continue to press the Congress to pass legislation that would end the shutdown and reopen the government."

Rahall has voted in support of legislation to ensure federal employees on unpaid furlough would receive lost pay after the shutdown ends, but noted that the measure alone does not go far enough.
