The Shadyside Ladies Civic Club and the Shadyside Public Library Saturday showed you can't spell scare without the word care. They teamed up for the 4th Annual Halloween Costume Giveaway.
Dozens from Shadyside and the neighboring communities showed up for some Halloween games, treats, and most importantly a free costumes for the kids.
The event was thought up by Sue Celaschi after she saw how lightly used prom dresses were given away by the Your Fairygodmother organization.
"We don't want them to feel left out. I mean think back to 1st grade or 4th grade or whatever and everyone had a costume who went to the school Halloween party but you didn't have one so you stayed home from school that day," said Celaschi. "And you know my heart just goes out to those children."
Last year they gave away 49 costumes but Sue said they were expecting to give away more than 60 this year. Kids didn't have to live in Shadyside to get a free costume but Sue hopes other communities will follow Shadyside's lead and hold similar giveaways in the future.
