Wheeling Hospital's Chief Executive Officer has received a major award. Ron Violi has been named a Health Care Hero of the Year by the Pittsburgh Business Times.
Violi says to have people from Pittsburgh, one of the leading healthcare centers in the nation, recognize the high level of care found locally is a huge boost for the Ohio Valley.
Violi came to Wheeling Hospital in 2006 because he says he like's a challenge, and knew the hospital's problems could be fixed. However, he says, it's the people at Wheeling hospital that deserve the award.
"I'm part of it, but it's the team around me," he says. "You can't do these things alone. It looks good, and sounds good, but the reality is that without the people around you, you can't accomplish this kind of transformation."
Violi says he's proud that Wheeling Hospital now has the people and equipment to treat patients here in Wheeling, rather than having to send them to another regional hospital. He's also very proud of the progress made in the pediatric unit.
