    The National Park Foundation awarded $504,000 in grants to 28 national parks across the United States and the Virgin Islands, including one in West Virginia, through its Park Stewards Program.

    The Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter of the West Virginia Master Naturalist program, in conjunction with Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, is sponsoring a “Moth Watch” outing on Blennerhassett Island July 27. Participants will board the Island Belle sternwheeler at 7 p.m. for a river trip to the island. 
    The Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter of the West Virginia Master Naturalist program, in conjunction with Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, is sponsoring a “Moth Watch” outing on Blennerhassett Island July 27. Participants will board the Island Belle sternwheeler at 7 p.m. for a river trip to the island. 

The Charleston Light Opera Guild and the Clay Center will present the inspiring story of endurance and the human spirit, "Les Miserables," on several dates in early November.

The first of six performances of the world's longest-running musical will begin at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Maier Foundation Performance Hall.

The complete schedule of performances includes: 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1-2; 2 p.m. Nov. 3; 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7-8; and 2 p.m. Nov. 10.

The performance follows lead character Jean Valjean in the epic tale of passion, sacrifice and redemption set in 19th Century France. The show is based on the Victor Hugo novel of the same name.

The cast includes Ryan Hardiman as Jean Valjean and Chris Terpening as Inspector Javert. The production is under the direction and choreography of Nina Denton Pasinetti.
