Representatives of the Polymer Alliance Zone of West Virginia are participating in the Global Plastics Summit, taking place in Chicago this week to talk about how West Virginia's plastics industry can leverage the benefits  of low-cost natural gas – the chief feedstock in the production of plastics.

"Our plastics industry is perfectly situated to take advantage of the gas boom," Karen Facemyer, president of PAZ, said in a news release. "In some instances, our manufacturers are literally sitting on top of this vital resource. We hope to bring back information for our members that they can use to improve their competitive advantage in developing their products for the global marketplace."

The inaugural Global Plastics Summit will bring together decision makers, thought leaders and technical experts from IHS Chemical, the plastics industry, oil and gas and most areas of American manufacturing.

The Polymer Alliance Zone is an economic development organization based in Wood County that works to market West Virginia's plastics industry and recruit plastic-related companies to the state. With a focus on Wood, Mason and Jackson counties, the Polymer Alliance Zone has been working to grow the plastics industry in the region and state for more than 17 years.
