Multiple All-MEC Laurels for West Liberty Soccer

Posted: Updated:
After falling one win shy of a playoff berth in just its second season as a varsity program, the West Liberty University women's soccer team made its presence felt on Wednesday when the Mountain East Conference coaches announced the 2013 All-MEC Soccer Team.
Courtney Webb was a second-team All-MEC selection and also earned a berth on the MEC's All-Freshman Team. Janice Johnson also earned second-team All-MEC honors while Sarah Evans was honorable mention All-MEC.
Webb, a freshman forward from Martinsburg, W.Va., came up big on numerous occasions throughout her first varsity season with Coach Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers. She was honored as the MEC Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in back-to-back October wins against West Virginia Wesleyan and Urbana. Webb led the team in scoring with 8 goals and 1 assist.
Johnson, a sophomore defender from Greenbelt, Md., came to West Liberty as a transfer from NCAA Division I George Mason University and established herself as a key component on the Hilltoppers' back line. She finished the year with 2 goals and 1 assist.
Evans, a sophomore midfielder from Morgantown, W.Va., had a goal and an assist while serving as a steadying influence in the Black and Gold midfield.
Regular-season champion Notre Dame (OH) swept the four major awards. The Falcons' Megan O'Connor was MEC Offensive Player of the Year while Kristy Kolschetsky was named Defensive Player of the Year. Notre Dame's Karla DiJohn was Freshman of the Year and Mike Shiels was Coach of the Year.
