The Charleston Family YMCA helped a long-time member mark a milestone.

Member Dave E. Cummons, 71, of Charleston, rowed his 20 millionth meter at the YMCA Oct. 31. Cummons met his 15 millionth meter row goal at the YMCA Dec. 8, 2011, and he decided more than a year later his next personal goal would be 20 million rows. Sixteen meters equals one mile.

Cummons brought along his log books to show the progress he's made through nearly 10 years. Concept2, a rowing company that keeps track of national statistics, was on hand to present Cummons his 20 million meter award.

"Dave is a daily reminder to YMCA members and staff that fitness is attainable at any age," said YMCA President John Giroir.
