A 9-month-old baby was found dead in her home Thursday morning, and now an investigation is underway to determine how the child died.

"Everybody is shocked.  Just shocked," one neighbor said.

The West Virginia State Police is handling the investigation.  Troopers said a 911 call came in about 10:30 a.m.  Tpr. Silas Belt described the scene once they arrived.  "EMS had already had the infant at the time.  We then called the International Crimes Against Children Unit out and we began interviews and investigating."

Neighbors said they woke up Thursday morning to a chaotic scene on Freemont Loop in Logan County.

"Cops, family everywhere," said Caleb Donahue.  "Everybody was standing out in the alley freaking out.  They were crying in pain."

One neighbor said he was just at the house in question the night before the child passed away.  At that time, he said the baby seemed happy and healthy.  "She was bouncing around happy as could be," said Santo Ayala.  "I held her and rocked her and tried to get her to go to sleep."

Troopers are not releasing much information about who they are interviewing at this point in the investigation.  An autopsy is being performed on the young girl.  Troopers said they hope to get those results back by Friday evening.
