Veteran Speaks to Wheeling Middle School Students

Posted: Updated:

On Friday, a veteran told Wheeling Middle School students about the sacrifices of military service.

The West Virginia Patriot Guard roared in on 20 motorcycles and urged the students to honor the veterans in their lives.

The students at Wheeling Middle School were all dressed in red shirts, and that's because wearing a red shirt on a Friday is a way of expressing your support for our nation's military, past and present.

One veteran said he spent many Christmases and birthdays far away from his wife and kids, but he had an important job to do. The students learned that veterans always appreciate being honored and thanked. They also learned that veterans can be young people, who may even have attended their school, a few years earlier.

The soldiers said that, out of all citizens in America, only one percent go into the military.
