Lee Chaklos, the owner of the Bellaire Bridge was set to appear in court again on Wednesday for his criminal contempt hearing.
Chaklos has previously pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal contempt. If found guilty, he could face six months in prison and a $5,000 fine. He already owes the court $85,000 in outstanding sanctions.
According to Dan Guida, who represents the City of Benwood, Chaklos misrepresented the fact that he has three liens, totaling $1.5 million, on the bridge. Guida also feels that Chaklos underestimated the value of the scrap from the bridge. Guida said he believes the bridge itself is worth $1 million, while it will take $2-3 million to tear down.
