The No.4 Williamstown Yellowjackets eliminated No.13 Wheeling Central 27-25 in the opening-round of the Class A playoffs.
Wheeling Central scored a late touchdown, and with the PAT, moved to within two points of the Yellowjackets, but the ensuing onside kick was recovered by Williamstown and they ran out the clock.
The game was tied 6-6 at half, after freshman quarterback Isaac Rine connected with sophomore Brian Campbell for a 26-yard touchdown. Rine completed 10-of-15 for 158 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior running back C.J. Burch carried the ball 29 times for 158 yards and two touchdowns.
A controversial play on the Yellowjackets game-winning drive, as Dakota Watson appeared to be down, but spun off a couple Maroon Knight defenders and carried the ball inside the 10. Quarterback Jake Tracewell connected with Hunter Neely for the touchdown. The two-point conversion made it 27-18.
The Maroon Knights finish the season at 6-5, after dropping four of its last five games.
Williamstown, now 9-2, will advance to take on the (12) Bishop Donahue (7-3) vs (5) Man (9-1) winner.
